Breastfeeding Art Journal 3

Hi Friends,

I started this month by sharing an art journal page on cause that is very close to my heart and I wanted to close this month on the same note. As this page is self explanatory, I am not going to add much to details. Sometimes simplicity is all that is needed to pass on a message. The women & child cut out are from August issue of Parent Circle magazine.

You can find my other pages on Breastfeeding here Page 1 & Page 2

The background is done using Acrylic paints & I have written the benefits using a simple white gel pen.

The theme at Art Journal Journey this month is "Count Your Blessings" and there can be no bigger blessing than Breastfeeding. Entering my art journal for the challenge here: https://art-journal-journey.blogspot.com/2018/08/count-your-blessings.html

Please share this page & spread the knowledge & importance of breastfeeding.

Be a gold - Art Journal Page - #TTC3

Hi friends,

I am back with mid-month inspiration at The Twisted Challenges blog. The theme for August as you know is "Go Bold + Replace Me". So when I opened my art journal to create this page, I didn't start with an idea. Yeah yeah, I was sort of blank and all I knew was that I need to create a mid-month inspiration. But the moment I started applying gesso on  the pages, the spread just unfolded in my mind.

Be A Gold - Art Journal Page. The Twisted Challenges 3 Inspiration

I am not sure if this saying has been quoted before as I havent read it anywhere and it sort of came up in my mind while I was coloring the background and it made so much sense to me. I often meet so many women who prioritize everyone else in family before them be it parents, spouse or kids. They give importance to everyone else around they and try to find happiness in others happiness. There is nothing wrong in this, however, in all this scheme, where are you? What's your position in their life? Are you their priority? Even if you are, should you not prioritize yourself and do things for just yourself? Don't you have the right to be happy and do things just for yourself? Even some men now a days I see they keep struggling and slogging all day to fulfill wishes of everyone around them, be it their boss (well that's essential part of job), parents, wives or kids.  They forget to give themselves the much needed break and they never do anything just for themselves. So this page is dedicated to all those men and women, who need to take a break, think a little and start giving priority to their own self.

Steps to Create:

I applied a coat of Little Birdie 2 in 1 texture paste (as gesso) on the Mixed Media Art journal from Little Birdie. Once the gesso was dry, I colored the page using Prima Art Alchemy Acrylic Paint - Metallique Ancient Coin and Color Bloom Ginger Colral Spray Mist. I didnt cover the whole page with paints and kept it very rustic.

Once the paints were dry, I stamped the sentiment using We R Memory Keepers stamps and Ranger Black Archival Ink.

I colored the jewels using the coloring tutorial by Sarah Renae Clark using the free Gem Practice Sheet by her with my Creta color pencils. I outlined facet markings on the jewel using white jewel pen and fussy cut the 2 jewels.

Be A Gold - Art Journal Page. The Twisted Challenges 3 Inspiration

I adhered the jewels on to the page. I stamped the rest of sentiment on white card stock using Concord & 9th Perfectly Penned set and black archival ink. I fussy cut the quote and adhere it to my journal page. I colored in the "G,L,D" in gold and "B,R" in bronze using Sakura Brush Micron to make the alphabets solid black. I added some Nuvo Copper Embellishment mouse through Pie lane stencils to finish my art journal spread.

I hope you are inspired to create and join our The Twisted Challenge 3: Go Bold + Replace Me. Hop on to our blog for rules and more inspiration from my fellow team mates and our guest DT. Last date to participate in August challenge is 31st August 2018.

Word Cloud - Art Journal Page

Hi,

I am here today sharing another page from the art journal I made for Tejal. While making this journal, I wanted to make a word cloud with words that best describe Tejal. Tejal is many things to me - a friend, a philosopher, a crafter, an inspiration and much more. I wanted to capture some of these feelings. So I got brain storming with Saumya about words that can best describe Tejal and some of the words that Saumya suggested were "Cheese-licious" & "Tea-rrific" as Tejal loves cheese & tea. Tejal also loves Amish, the writer, hence Amish Lover with a heart ;) She is an amazing card maker and very very frank. So putting together these and a few more words, I created a word cloud on MS PowerPoint and used it as a focal point on this page.

Word Cloud Art Journal

Saumya had told me that Khushboo's favorite motif was anything that was colorful and around the same time that I was making this art journal, I had purchased the Dylusions Paint Pens and the Simon Says Stamp Ornate Background Stamp. So instantly I decided that I am going to use the stamp to create a colorful motif and color it in using the Dylusions Paint Pens to create the background for this page. This background was so beautiful in itself, that I didnt have the heart to adhere the word cloud directly on this stunning background. Hence, I used a vellum paper to adhere the word cloud over this stunning background.

Word Cloud Art Journal

List of Supplies:
  • 6 by 7" card stock/ chipboard
  • Little Birdie 2 in 1 texture paste (used as gesso)
  • Simon Says Stamp Ornate Background Stamp
  • VersaMark Ink
  • Ranger Black Embossing Powder
  • Dylusions Paint Pen
  • Vellum paper
  • Pie lane flourish stencil
  • Ranger texture paste
  • White pixie dust
  • Word cloud printout
  • Heat gun, palette knife
Word Cloud Art Journal

Steps to Create:

  • Create Word cloud in Powerpoint and take a print on 300 gsm card stock.
  • Apply gesso on card stock/ chipboard base and set aside to dry.
  • Once the gesso is dry, stamp the Ornate stamp with VersaMark ink, cover with black embossing powder and heat set it.
  • Color the design using paint pens. Make sure all the powder is set and wipe the surface with a dry cloth before coloring as any powder residue will block the paint pens.
  • Cut Vellum to the size of base chipboard. Apply texture paste through stencil with help of palette knife and sprinkle with pixie dust.
  • Adhere the word cloud on vellum with glue.
  • To finish the page, adhere vellum to the base page on one side.

Breastfeeding Week Art Journal Page #2

Hi Friends,

I am back today with another page dedicated to World Breastfeeding Week Celebrations. You can view the 1st page I did on this occasion here

Today's page is more representational then actually depicting breastfeeding in actuality. Breastfeeding lays the root of good health in children. It is the foundation of life that the child will live. Breastfeeding prevents a child from various health issues in later life too. So when a mother chooses to breastfeed her child, she is sowing the seeds of a nourished and healthy life. It is also a way of a mother expressing her love and care for her child and hence, I have added hearts to represent a mother's love for her child.

Breastfeeding Week Art Journal Page

Hi,

Today I am sharing a page that highlights a cause that is very close to my heart - Breastfeeding. Did you know that 1st to 7th August is celebrated as World Breastfeeding Week every year? You may wonder why is there a need to celebrate and promote breastfeeding? Isnt it the most natural thing every mother does for her child? Sadly not. As per statistics published in The Times Of India Online Edition, only 42% Indian infants are breastfeed within 1st hour after birth, i.e. 58% are deprived of the benefits of early feeding & colostrum in India. Not only that, only 55% infants are exclusively breastfed for 1st six months (WHO guidelines). These sort of statistics for breastfeeding are found across the world in many countries and hence, the celebrations for World Breastfeeding Week. Breastfeeding is not luxury. Its birth right of every child who comes to this world. Its the best blessing a mother can give her child. Hence, I created this page around breastfeeding, as my small contribution to the celebrations this year. You can read more about World Breastfeeding Week by visiting here

Joys of Life #TTC3 - Art Journal Page

Hi Friends,

We are back with challenge 3 on The Twisted Challenges blog. The theme for TTC#3 is "Go Bold + Replace Me" i.e. we need to use a Bold Sentiment & replace an alphabet in sentiment.

This project is a result of a long chain of thoughts. The 1st things to click me was that I need to replace "Y" with a Martini glass. You might wonder whats the chain of thoughts in that. Wait, let me come to it. So, while I was in Pune, doing Ph.D., my favorite restaurant to eat out was a Southeast Asian restaurant called "Malaka Spice" and the most favorite drink to order there was a Watermelon Martini. You can say it was my go to drink at Malaka Spice. Not sure if they still serve it, I hope they do. I have so many memories attached to it ;) So, the "watermelon" Martini inspired colors on this page: red & green with a hint of yellow.

Joys of Life - Art Journal

Watermelon Martini was pure Joy for me. So I decided that the sentiment on this page should be "Joys of Life". Once, the sentiment & background colors were sorted, I started wondering what else brought joy in life and the thing that stood out significantly was doodling/ tangling and hence I decide to tangle along on this page. So this page really represents a part of me :)

Steps to Create:

  • I colored the handmade paper page spread in the journal using Cosmic Shimmer & Color Bloom sprays with help of paint brush & water mister (misting as needed to blend the colors).
  • Once the inks were dry, I doodled the alphabets "J", "O" & "S" using Sakura Microns & adhered Martini glass print out to resemble "Y".
  • Thereafter, I tangled all around the edges using Sakura Microns and added highlights using white gel pen.
  • I stamped "Of Life" using Concord & 9th stamp and black ink.
  • I outlined the martini glass using 08 Micron.
  • To finish the page, I added some shadows to the sentiment using white charcoal pencil.

I hope you loved this simple page & my interpretation of our theme. Hop on the "The Twisted Challenges" to read all about the challenge, rules & some stunning inspiration from other design team members.

As Susi mentioned in the blog comment, being able to Tangle (art) and eat/drink food I like is a complete blessing & hence entering this page at Art Journal Journey August Challenge "Count Your Blessings"
