Create Wings - Art Journal - #TTC10

Hi friends,

Welcome back after a months time. Well I have been excessively busy the last month with work commitments but as we start a new challenge at The Twisted Challenges today, I decided to take a break for sometime to create the inspiration. The theme this month is "Animals + Wings", i.e you need to use an animal image and add wings to the animal. You have to use animals that do not have wings and add wings to them.

As usual, I have created an art journal page for the inspiration. I used minimal products for this page and is very easy to create.

  • I colored a page in Little Birdie Mixed Media Journal using Ranger Candied Apple Distress Ink.
  • Using a tree stencil from icraft, I applied Nuvo Silver Mousse on the page.
  • I pencil colored some animal digital stamps from http://www.opalmanor.com/digistamps and fussy cut them.
  • The wings were die cut using various butterfly dies.
  • The wings and animals were adhered on the page using glue.
  • Quote was added to the page to finish the page.
I hope you all loved this quick, simple and bright page and are inspired to add wings to your life to achieve something spectacular in life. Hop on to The Twisted Challenges blog to know more about the challenge rules and to see more inspiration from the team.

Be a gold - Art Journal Page - #TTC3

Hi friends,

I am back with mid-month inspiration at The Twisted Challenges blog. The theme for August as you know is "Go Bold + Replace Me". So when I opened my art journal to create this page, I didn't start with an idea. Yeah yeah, I was sort of blank and all I knew was that I need to create a mid-month inspiration. But the moment I started applying gesso on  the pages, the spread just unfolded in my mind.

Be A Gold - Art Journal Page. The Twisted Challenges 3 Inspiration

I am not sure if this saying has been quoted before as I havent read it anywhere and it sort of came up in my mind while I was coloring the background and it made so much sense to me. I often meet so many women who prioritize everyone else in family before them be it parents, spouse or kids. They give importance to everyone else around they and try to find happiness in others happiness. There is nothing wrong in this, however, in all this scheme, where are you? What's your position in their life? Are you their priority? Even if you are, should you not prioritize yourself and do things for just yourself? Don't you have the right to be happy and do things just for yourself? Even some men now a days I see they keep struggling and slogging all day to fulfill wishes of everyone around them, be it their boss (well that's essential part of job), parents, wives or kids.  They forget to give themselves the much needed break and they never do anything just for themselves. So this page is dedicated to all those men and women, who need to take a break, think a little and start giving priority to their own self.

Steps to Create:

I applied a coat of Little Birdie 2 in 1 texture paste (as gesso) on the Mixed Media Art journal from Little Birdie. Once the gesso was dry, I colored the page using Prima Art Alchemy Acrylic Paint - Metallique Ancient Coin and Color Bloom Ginger Colral Spray Mist. I didnt cover the whole page with paints and kept it very rustic.

Once the paints were dry, I stamped the sentiment using We R Memory Keepers stamps and Ranger Black Archival Ink.

I colored the jewels using the coloring tutorial by Sarah Renae Clark using the free Gem Practice Sheet by her with my Creta color pencils. I outlined facet markings on the jewel using white jewel pen and fussy cut the 2 jewels.

I adhered the jewels on to the page. I stamped the rest of sentiment on white card stock using Concord & 9th Perfectly Penned set and black archival ink. I fussy cut the quote and adhere it to my journal page. I colored in the "G,L,D" in gold and "B,R" in bronze using Sakura Brush Micron to make the alphabets solid black. I added some Nuvo Copper Embellishment mouse through Pie lane stencils to finish my art journal spread.

I hope you are inspired to create and join our The Twisted Challenge 3: Go Bold + Replace Me. Hop on to our blog for rules and more inspiration from my fellow team mates and our guest DT. Last date to participate in August challenge is 31st August 2018.

Scars Make You Strong - Art Journal Page

Hi,

Being a paramedic (dietitian), everything related  to health is intensified for me, however, at the same time I am always very calm about any major health related issue as I am aware about medical procedures and modes of treatment. So, when a few months back I underwent a surgery, I was very calm as I was supposed to be back and running within a week's time. However, I developed a post surgical complication and the complication didnt cure even after 2 months of surgery. For the 1st time in life, I completely broke down after 2 months, as this was a surgical complication that I was not ready for at all. I was home for 2 strait months and moved out only to see the doctor. At this moment, Tejal & Saumya's favorite quote uplifted me a lot. These quotes essential tell you that no matter how injured you are, you are only going to emerge a winner at the end.

"My Scars Are A Proof That I Survived" & "The Wound Is Where The Light Enters You" had such deep impact on me and helped me get positive in the testing times that when I decided to incorporate them in the art journal I made for Tejal, I decided to not add any other motifs on this page and keep complete focus on the quotes.

Also, as quotes were the focal point of the page, I wanted to add some more drama to the page and hence I decided to use a font with cracked look. I looked up online & found a font (free for personal use) that suited my purpose and used it for printing both the quotes. Even for the background I used Distress Crackle Paint & Alcohol Inks to give the intense cracked (scared) look. I added some patches of Nuvo Copper mousse with stencil to mimic healing wounds.

Supplies Used:

  • 6 by 7" card stock or chipboard
  • Tim Holtz Distress Clear Rock Candy Crackle Paint
  • Tim Holtz Stencil
  • Ranger Alcohol Ink: Gold, Silver. Cranberry, Lettuce, Butterscotch
  • Ranger Distress Ink: Candied Apple
  • Nuvo Embellishment Mousse - Fresh Copper
  • Little Birdie (Itsy Bitsy) 2 in 1 texture paste (Used as gesso)
  • Paint brush, blending tool & foam, felt applicator, Sakura Microns, glue
  • Printed quotes

Steps to create:
  • Apply gesso on the card stock/ chipboard base and let it dry. Once dry, apply a thick coat of clear rock candy crackle and set aside to dry.
  • Dab various colours of alcohol ink (with felt applicator) on the dried page t o intensify the cracks.
  • Apply Nuvo mousse through stencil.
  • Print and cut the quotes in small words. Colour the quotes using Candied Apple ink.
  • Adhere the quotes on the page outline and outline the quotes on 2 sides using Sakura Microns to finish the page.

I hope you liked this simple, yet intense page of quotes & get inspired to face tough times with strength & grit. You can view previous pages by clicking on links below:
